Diane and I headed into Brigham City on a Friday afternoon to find some dinner. Our original intent was to go back to a place we had been before. Unfortunately, Idle Isle has gone out of business. We knew the diner was on the edge but we were disappointed that it had drawn its last breath.
We had driven by a local diner a number of times but had never stopped into the J&D Restaurant. We knew it had been around for years. As we walked in we were greeted by a happy hostess who took us to a booth on the south side of the diner. The tables were covered with local advertisements and a substantial variety of condiments. Carson, our waiter, checked in with us and took our drink order.
A Hometown Menu
The menu contained an all-day breakfast side that included a six-egg omelet. It was what you would expect: egg dishes, pancakes, waffles, potatoes, and various breads. The other side of the menu had sandwiches, burgers, and main dishes. There was a senior menu that was limited but did include liver and onions. I don't know if I will ever be old enough for that dish.
Diane had the waffle and I chose the grilled ham and cheese. The food came in a reasonable time. We asked Carson if he could warm the syrup and he happily obliged. The fries were a bit cold so Carson brought fresh ones. The waffle was crispy and homemade. The sandwich was just as you would expect (on sourdough double cheese with thinly cut ham slices that may have come from a package).

The Good News
We stopped at the Maddox outdoor drive-in for some ice cream. We shared the Pralines and Cream in a cone. It ran us $4.50 but it was really good ice cream.
Overall...
I would expect this diner is a local favorite. While we will not be back, the staff was friendly, the food good and the portions were substantial. As for the cost, the waffle and the sandwich with tip ran us about $23.
